CETEM is a non-profit scientific research
and training organization located in the south east of Spain, in
Yecla, the second city of Spain in furniture production, after Valencia.
CETEM was created due to an initiative of the private companies
in the wood and furniture sector of Murcia, and established in 1995
with the initial support of the Murcia’s Government, the Spanish
Ministry of Industry and the European Union. Today CETEM is the
umbrella organisation for almost 170 associated companies throughout
Spain. CETEM contributes actively towards the social economic development
of companies by providing support and encouraging processes of Technology
Innovation and Development, such as strategies of competitiveness
in the business environment and training programs adapted to the
Furniture Sector. CETEM manages more than 30 training programs for
the Furniture Sector per year; these courses cover a wide range
of areas from Design, Ecodesign, and Production Management to quality
standards management. CETEM knows the importance of design in the
Furniture Sector and promotes design by means of training courses.
CETEM has also launched 3 design contents to promote Design:
1) International Industrial Design content (annually)
2) Regional Furniture Design content (annually)
3) Students furniture design content (annually)
By means of these contents Young Designers have the opportunity
to show their designs, and many of them are subcontracted by Furniture
design companies.
CETEM annually organizes a “Master’s degree in Furniture
Design and Manufacturing”. This Master is the ideal way for
students and graduates to practice their chosen career while gaining
practical experience in a real work environment and insights into
practices in Furniture Companies. The experience improves skills,
communication and helps the participants to become more confident
and successful in their future career.
CETEM staff forms a multidisciplinary team with academic background
in areas like, Education, Engineering, Chemistry and Design. Staff
experience includes participation and coordination of projects financed
by National and European programmes like ESF.
CETEM has implemented a gender policy; nowadays CETEM workers are
equally distributed: 50% women and 50% men; four of their seven
departments are being managed by women.
